About VeloNews
At the turn of the twentieth century, cycling was the biggest professional sport in North America. Riders such as Marshall W. "Major" Taylor were the undisputed world champions of the sport, and thousands watched races at Madison Square Garden and dozens of velodromes and dirt or cinder tracks across the country. Though VeloNews can't trace its roots back that far, the print publication has been providing domestic and international race reports, training tips, athlete interviews, and tech reviews for over 35 years.
VeloNews.com first showed up on browsers in 1994, and we've had a full-time presence on the Internet since the spring of 1995. Our timeliness, comprehensive coverage and reliability have been recognized across the industry, as well as by "The New York Times" and "FastCompany" magazine. The current site offers the broadest range of content yet -- same-day race coverage, news, features, rider bios, rankings, and user forums.
We're often asked, What's a "velo"? It is a French noun for "bike," and because of the popularity of the Tour de France, Paris-Roubaix and many other famous races, French has long been the international language of cycling.
