“Brokeback Mountain’ star actor Jake Gyllenhaal prepared the best way possible to watch today’s stage from gap to l’Alpe d’Huez – he rode up the famed finishing ascent with friend and seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong the day before.

VeloNews.com: You rode l’Alpe d’Huez yesterday and saw it firsthand. Today you will see the riders race up it. Can you tell about what you think about it?Jake Gyllenhaal: I can’t wait. I have no idea what to expect. I have seen it on TV. This is a whole another deal.

VN: What sort of appreciation dos that give you about the enormity of what Armstrong has achieved? JG: I am speechless. Obviously he is extraordinary when you watch him from afar. Seeing this and then watching riding on the bike. It is unbelievable

VN: Now you can say you have ridden up l’Alpe d’Huez. Are there any other climbs you want to do? JG: Oh yeah man … it’s the beginning

VN: Have you got any tips for the TourJG: I have only been here a day …

VN: Have you been following the Tour?JG: Yeah, yeah

VN: Any opinion about how he Tour has been going so far? JG: Obviously it started off a little rocky. But I am not one to really give any tips or advice or opinion. There have been some pretty nasty crashes.

VN: If you were a gambling man who would put your money on?JG: I don’t want to say. I don’t wan to say. We’ll say Popovych today

VN: Will Lance let you cheer for Landis?JG: I am not restricted. I cheer for who I want to cheer for. Whether I cheer for him or not I’ll keep that a secret.
