Camenzind doping case reopened

The doping case against former road cycling world champion Oscar Camenzind has been reopened.

The state court of Schwyz ordered investigative magistrate Martin Eichenberg to take such action. The decision was first reported in the Swiss news magazine Facts on Thursday and confirmed by Eichenberg on Friday.

Camenzind rode for the Phonak cycling team, Floyd Landis's squad at the 2006 Tour de France. Landis tested positive for a skewed testosterone-epitestosterone ratio after winning the Tour and was fired. The team will shut down at the end of the season because of a lack of sponsorship.

Camenzind tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug EPO before the 2004 Athens Olympics and withdrew from the event. The 1998 world champion was dropped by Phonak and retired shortly afterward. In September 2004, the Swiss cyclist was banned two years and fined about $8,000.

A lower court, the Gersau District Court, halted the investigation last December because the origin of the EPO could not be established.
