Steve Tilford: The man, the myth, the old guy
Steve,
You raised the bar man! (see "Dunkedbut undaunted, Tilford wins KLM 'cross")

All of my old stories racing just got smaller. How fast I used to bejust got a bit slower. The older I get the faster I used to be just gotinvalidated. My winter will likely be spent working to surpass this past season whereI was just trying to stay on your wheel. But, suffering as an oldguy with the pros still is more fun than when we were
ripping races to shreds 20 to 30 years ago. It's just that only one of us can still do it. Guess who...Whew! My hats off to you! Can't top that!

Milwaukee, WisconsinAmen, Brent. While a lot of us remember the two of you tearing up the roads 20 and 30 years ago, do you recall that ten years ago, people were referring to Tilford as "old?" What is he now? -EditorIn praise of da man
Editors,
Another chapter is written about one of the greats in U.S. cycling!!I have followed this guys career since I got started in mountain biking.Steve always pulls off great feats that seem almost superhuman. Case inpoint the recent win after falling though an iced over pond during a race. Most cyclists would wish to just survive a polar bear club dip during arace. Instead Superman Steve Tilford was able to not only win therace but do it on a rolling ice cube.Keep up the great work Steve, and as usual YOU DA MAN!!

Editor,
This is not a letter about drug problems, not a complaint about theweekly rant, just a "well done" and "thanks."

Each VeloNews PhotoGallery provides me with a great distraction (and new desktop picture). There are all sorts of cycling out there in a wide variety of places, andVeloNews is great to pass that along.

This month I see our club jersey shown from the streets of Baghdad(see "TouringBaghdad" by Stan K.). Awesome! Stan volunteered for that assignment, like so many Americans he felt he could help and off he went. We sent "carepackages" of tires, tubes, tools, etc and he fixed up bikes for otherswhile there. Thanks for including him sporting those red-white-and-bluecolors, and thanks for the photo contest! Keep it up.
