Page signs short-term deal with Belgian outfit

Former U.S. cyclo-cross champion Jonathan Page has signed a short-term contract with the Belgian cycling-product company Morgan Blue.

The contract runs from December to March 1, 2007.

Page will race the European Christmas Series, which runs from December 23 through January 8, then continue racing every weekend thereafter until the 'cross season concludes in late February. At that time, Page will be free to renew with Morgan Blue or find another sponsor.

His kit and bikes will also sport the logos of longtime sponsors Cervelo, Adidas, Mavic, Cyclocrossworld.com and Shimano.

"I'm very excited about this and very thankful," said Page. "They are really nice people at Morgan Blue. They are supportive of me and of cycling as a whole. They have given me a good contract with the opportunity to re-negotiate after the season. I think that's important for me right now since I am just coming back from a major injury in what had started out to be my best season yet."

Page, who will focus on the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships January 27-28 in Hooglede-Gits, Belgium, took second at the USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships December 15-17 in Providence, Rhode Island. It was his first race after rotator-cuff surgery in October.
