Just what were you thinking?!?
VeloNews,
The selection of Floyd Landis as NorthAmerican Male of the Year is an insult to cycling and an insult to our intelligence!Because of that selection, I will not renew my subscriptionto VeloNews.

Dear Velo,
Time magazine picks both the good and the bad for their "Personof the Year." They choose the person who, in their opinion, influencedworld events more than any other.Regardless of guilt or innocence, bad or good, Floyd Landis influencedthe world of cycling more than any other rider in 2006.Good choice!!

Hey editors,
Landis is a cheat, just like Tyler Hamilton. Landis got caught doping once, but I suspect he used it winning the Tour of California, Tour of Georgia, and Paris-Nice. Landis now has a yellow jersey that really doesn’t belong to him and Hamilton has a gold medal that he didn't earn.Remember when Hamilton rode away from everyone in the 16th stage of the 2003 Tour and no one could catch him? Doesn't that sound remarkably similar to the 17th stage of the 2006 Tour, when Landis rode away from everyone? Remember how, in both cases, folks excitedly declared that the wins were “unbelievable?” Maybe they were. You made a really bad choice.

Dear VeloNews,
Excellent choice VeloNews on Floyd Landis as the Top North Americanmale cyclist! And kudos to you for taking such a difficult - butcorrect- stance in making that decision. In this country we are innocent until proven guilty! Some ofour American naysayers might want to remember that very important right.I will reserve my final judgment and assume Floyd is innocent until thefacts are in. I could go on about this topic, but my e-mail is onlyto congratulate Floyd and you on the award.Keep up the great work, and keep the rubber side down!

Dear Velo,
Steve wants cycling to be covered in a mature and fun way. (seeSteve Paterson's letter "Beneath our standards" in Monday'smailbag) Mature? We are talking about riding a toy. This isn't about war, medicine, terrorism. It's about a leisure-time activity;a sometimes method of transportation on a kid's (of all ages) toy.By the way, I love O'Grady'sstuff. This wacky industry needs a little humor

Gentlemen:
I never read O'Grady, and I seldom read the letters page because thereaders are often as crude and thoughtless as he, but I'm alwayssurprised by the number of letters complaining about his contributions. If you think he's an idiot (a position with some validity) just don't read him!
