Juan Jose Haedo of Colavita Olive Oil took the overall title at the World Children's Cycling Classic in Georgia over Labor Day weekend, while U.S. Postal Service's George Hincapie won the weekend's final event, the U.S. 100K road race in Marietta.
Haedo and teammate Sebastian Alexandre went one-two in the Saturday evening criterium under the lights in Gainesville and then reversed positions the following day in the 80km road race on the Thurmond Tanner Parkway south of Gainesville. Haedo then took third in the finale to take the omnium title ahead of Jittery Joe's newest team member Evan Elken.
The final day's race, the 100km, $10,000 US 100K Classic was enlivened by Postal star Hincapie, who made a late break and was followed only by Aerospace Engineering's Eric Murphy. Hincapie took the win, with Murphy scoring second.
In the women's racing, after Genesis Scuba's Tina Pic and Colavita-Bolla's Shannon Hutchison traded wins in the first two days, the field lined up on Labor Day for the unique 10km race, with a $10,000 prize list on the line for a little over 15 minutes of racing. In the field stacked with quality sprinters, Team Basis's Nicole Freedman came out on top, beating Pic and Katrina Grove (RONA) to take the $1000 first-place prize.
