The UCI will meet with racers and teams to discuss Paris-Nice penalties

The International Cycling Union says it will open discipline hearings on the French cycling federation and its president for their role in the UCI's spat with Paris-Nice organizer Amaury Sport Organization.

And in a press release issued Tuesday, the UCI says it will meet with teams and rider representatives on March 25th to discuss "measures appropriate to the situation."

Prior to Paris-Nice, UCI president Pat McQuaid had threatened to fine and suspend riders who took part in the race, which was run under French federation rules. He said consequences could include barring the riders from the Olympics and the world championships.

"In order to let the riders concentrate on their race," the UCI avoided making statements about the situation during the event, which ended Sunday, it said.

In a foreshadowing of possible future political wrangling, the UCI statement notes that ASO has not registered April 13th Paris-Roubaix, the Tour de France and Paris-Tours on the UCI calendar, which means participants in those events could be punished by the UCI.
