Kelly Magelky (Trek-Volkwagen) and Jennifer Gersbach (Dale’s Pale Ale-Spot Bikes) won the second event of the Winter Park Mountain Bike Series on Sunday.
Magelky took the early lead in the 16.1-mile Cross Country Super Loop, then withstood a late charge from Braden Kappius (Tokyo Joe’s) to win in 1 hour, 19 minutes, 45 seconds. Kappius settled for second in 1:19:46, with Michael Mathers (Rocky Mountain Racing), winner of the June 14 Hill Climb Kickoff, finishing third in 1:21:51.
Gersbach turned in a dominating performance to win the women’s race in 1:32:35. Tokyo Joe’s teammates Erin Huck and Lydia Tanner took second and third at 1:37:49 and 1:38:18, respectively.
In the expert classes, Sharon McDowell Larsen took top honors in 1:41:13. Tiffanie Beal was second in 1:42:30 and Heidi Godsil was third in 1:43:45. On the men’s side, Tom Wagner was the fastest expert in 1:26:12. Michael Hall was second in 1:28:14 and Stefan Griebel was third in 1:28:24. Lyn Franklin was the top woman single-speed racer in 1:44:19 while Dax Massey led the men in 1:26:18.
Top sport riders were Celeste Cannon (1:51:28), Phyllis Woodford (1:53:50), and Janet Uhde (1:54:40). Top sport men were Doug Meegan (1:34:50), Juan Rivero (1:34:55), and Milo Metcalf (1:35:06).
