Injured racer could use some cheering up
Editor:
Joe Trujillo, a 15-year-old junior rider and one of the Reno Wheelmen's rising stars, was badly injured when he struck a tree during a Cat. 3/4/5 support race at the NorCal/Nevada Masters Championships.

Joe’s injuries include a torn liver, bruised lung, broken jaw and wrist, and facial fractures. He is in the pediatric ICU unit at Washoe Medical.

Joe's a great kid. He'll have a long road to recovery and could use all the encouragement your readers can give him. I've set up an e-mail account for readers to send their thoughts and get-well wishes to Joe. The address is: getwelljoe@breathhold.com.

We’ll send ours right now, Kurt. Get well soon, Joe – we’ll look forward to seeing you out of the hospital and back on the bike. - Editor

Lucky 7 ads dumb, amateurish
Editor:
I certainly hope that Phil, Paul and Bobke were well compensated for the Trek Lucky 7 ads that aired during the Tour. The ads were silly, stupid and insulting and served to make them, Trek and OLN look terribly unprofessional.

At what should have been a high point for the company, with its star athlete setting a record for the ages, Trek chose to run ads that looked like the product of the amateur hour at the local public access station. What were you thinking, guys?

And, no, I'm not just writing this just because I didn't win squat in the contest.

George in green?
Editor:
After George Hincapie's win in the mountains, everyone started to think of George as a GC rider for next year’s Tour de France. However, a more realistic goal would be the green jersey.

George can sprint well enough to get top five on the flat stages and he can climb much better than the traditional green-jersey contenders. O'Grady has demonstrated that the ability to get sprint points on mountain stages can keep a rider in the hunt for the green jersey. George can take that approach to the next level by being able to place top five on a mountain stage as well as on the flat stages.

Isn't it better to win the green jersey than to be top 10 on GC?

Lance had the cover coming
Editor:
Letter writer Jim James is from Lance Armstrong's hometown, so maybe he's especially overloaded with news about the greatest bicyclist of our age, perhaps all time (see Friday's Mailbag: "We suck"). But for a major cycling magazine not to put Lance on the cover after accomplishing something that no other rider ever had would have been unthinkable, unprofessional and just plain stupid.

I don't know what business Mr. James is in, but it sure ain't journalism. If he wants to escape news about Lance, he better move out of Austin.
