Horner joins Armstrong, Leipheimer at RadioShack
Chris Horner has signed with Team RadioShack for the next two seasons, according to an Oregon newspaper.
Horner told The Oregonian that he had talked with other teams, “but wanted to stay here” — that being alongside Astana teammates Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer.
It’s been a tough season for Horner, marked by promising form and punishing crashes. The most recent came during stage 4 of the Vuelta a España, when he hit the deck with dozens of riders in a pile-up caused by a narrow run through a rain-slickened traffic circle inside the 3km-to-go point.
Horner came away with a broken left hand, a hematoma on the right hip and a deep cut in his upper lip.
"I hit my face into the concrete," Horner said. "Somebody went too fast ... I thought I was in a good position but sometimes there are no good positions."
"I'm done for the year, for sure," he added.
Happily, it appears he was wrong about that. The Portland newspaper — for which Horner writes race diaries and columns — reports that the Astana man will line up for the start of the Giro di Lombardia, on October 17.
