Lampre signs Hondo
Veteran German sprinter Danilo Hondo will return to the big leagues next season after inking a deal to join Lampre.
Hondo, 35, has been at the fringes of the sport since he tested positive for carphedon, a banned stimulant, in the 2005 Vuelta a Murcia. He was fired by his then-team Gerolsteiner and served a one-year ban.
Hondo denied wrong-oing but eventually served out his ban only to find major teams hesitant to sign him up. He rode for Lamonta in 2006, Tinkoff in 2007, Serramenti in 2008 and PSK Whirlpool this season.
Hondo won three races in 2009, including a stage at the Tour of Portugal.
At Lampre, he will join Alessandro Petacchi and Damiano Cunego.
