
After many fits and starts, the revived Deutschland Tour finally took off in the late 1990s following the rise of German cycling stars such as Erik Zabel and Jan Ullrich. By 2005, it was expanded and moved to August as part of the ProTour. Levi Leipheimer won that year’s edition. Eternal German attacker Jens Voigt is the two-time defending champion since (with Leipheimer second both times).
